Portrait

Ancient myths say that painting was born with the first portrait. A woman outlined the shadow of her beloved on a wall of her house, who was about to leave for war.

I believe that all art descends from this first impulse, which in different ways derives from this initial desire to preserve and transfigure something that we know will be taken away by time.

I paint portraits for myself and others.
I came from the portrait and I return to it.
