Plein Air Painting
I live in Portugal, on the outskirts of a town where the suburban coexists and is gradually taking the place of historical and natural spaces.
These places, full of meaning, are often forgotten or unknown to the people who inhabit them. Prehistoric dolmens in the urban garden, Roman roads covered in tar, a closed medieval palace behind the bus stop, a dinosaur trail next to the social neighborhood, centuries-old farms for sale to expand the city.
I paint these places as they pass through time. I try to preserve the memory of their light before they disappear.
The light reaches the place, then the eye, through the nerve, leaves the hand, passes to the pigment, water and paper.
It is this delicate magic that makes me go out to paint outdoors.
