Ancient myths say that painting was born with the first portrait. A woman outlined the shadow of her beloved ,who was about to leave, on a wall of her house.

Interestingly, when I was a child, my older sister drew the shadows of my sister's profiles on the wall of our bedroom. Being too young to find an explanation, I took these lines as magic. I looked at them and my sisters, who had since grown up and left home, would light up inside me again.

For me, painting is trying to perform this discreet magic of evoking something absent and making it present within us. It is also about passing this something through who I am, transfiguring it and making it visible to others.
